Allegheny Intermediate Unit는 피츠버그 공립학교를 제외한 모든 Allegheny county를 담당하는 교육구입니다. 알리게니 인터미디어트 유닛 웹사이트에서 'student program'에 가면 이 지역 학생들이 참여할 수 있는 학업관련 행사 및 대회가 정리되어 있습니다. 웹사이트가 가끔 개편이 되고 업데이트하면서 정보가 변경될 수 있으니 aiu3.net으로 직접 가서 가끔 확인해보시기 바랍니다. 아래는 aiu3 웹사이트에서 가져온 것입니다.

참고로 버틀러 카운티는 Midwestern Intermediate Unit에 속하고 웹사이트는 miu4.org 입니다. 피츠버그 공립은 Pittsburgh-Mt. Oliver Intermediate Unit에 속하고 웹사이트는 https://www.pmoiu2.k12.pa.us/ 입니다.

• CALCUSOLVE (GRADES 5-12) ​ ​

​CalcuSolve 는 수학대회로 개인과 4명 선수팀으로 참가할 수 있습니다. 정해진 시간 안에 정답을 맞추는데 따라 점수를 받습니다. 

Tentative 2021 CalcuSolve dates:
Grades 5-6 – November 18
Grades 7-8 – November 19
Grades 9-10 – October 22
Grades 11-12 – October 22

The competition will be held virtually.

• CHILDREN'S CHOICE AWARDS (GRADES 3-6)

​The Allegheny Intermediate Unit and the Allegheny County Library Association partner to present the Children’s Choice Awards. Similar to a Mock Newbery program, school and public librarians will work together to help students (in grades 3-6) choose the best book of the year.  Students will have until March to read 3 of 8 nominated books and then vote for their favorite. In May the winning books will be announced at an event. 
Fee - $10 per student for the event
Information and registration for the 2022 Children's Choice Awards will be released in September 2021.

• ECO CHALLENGE (GRADES 6-12)

​Eco Challenge는 중고등학생들이 환경문제를 연구하고 해결법을 찾아내는 대회입니다. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden과  the Allegheny Intermediate Unit에서 주최합니다.  
Fee- $3 per student

• GOVERNOR'S STEM COMPETITION (GRADES 9-12)​

학생들이 최대 5명까지 팀을 이루어 자신들의 커뮤니티 문제를 STEM 관련 기술을 사용하여 해법을 찾는 대회입니다.

펜실베니아주 각 intermediate unit 에서 대회를 개최합니다.

• HISTORY BOWL (GRADES 4-8)

하인즈 히스토리 센터에서 전시물을 보면서 문제풀이, 창의적 글쓰기 등 경험해보는 것.
Fee - $5 per student

• PA MEDIA AND DESIGN COMPETITION (GRADES 6-12)

펜실베니아주 미디어 및 디자인 대회. 정보는 https://mediadesigncompetition.org/​

• POWERING PITTSBURGH (GRADES 6-12)

최대 4명의 학생들이 팀을 이루어 재생가능한 자원을 이용하여 에너지를 만드는 아이디어를 개발하는 대회. 수상자는 하인즈필드에서 열리는 11월에 지역대회에 출전. 지역대회 우승자는 'Steelers Game Day Experience'에 가볼수 있고 해당학교 STEM 프로그램에  $1500가 기부됨. 참가비 없음.
Information and registration for the 2021 Powering Pittsburgh Competition will be released in September 2021.

• STEM DESIGN CHALLENGE (GRADES 4-8)

STEM Design Challenge는 4-8학년 학생들을 대상으로 하는 공학적 디자인 대회. 2-4명의 팀을 이루어 재활용할 수 있는 재료와 K'Nex(선택)을 이용하여 프로젝트를 만들고 Design Notebook을 쓰고  blueprint를  제출합니다.  2분 분량의 설명 비디오를 제출해야 함.

• WILD INVESTIGATIONS WITH THE PITTSBURGH ZOO (GRADES 3-6)

​3-6학생들이 피츠버그 동물원에서 보물찾기, 문제풀이 등 할 수 있는 시간. 
Fee - $10 per student
